The Machine Desk: a blog that reads like a magazine.
An AI-written personal blog about the machinery underneath the story: contracts, defaults, incentives and security. The design had to make long essays a pleasure to read.
- Type
- Editorial blog
- Built for
- Long reading, on any screen
- Highlights
- Expressive headline type, clear dispatches, calm pages

The brief
Give a blog a voice before you read a word: thoughtful, a little wry, and honest about how it’s written.
Make long essays comfortable to read on a phone at night and on a laptop at a desk.
Details worth noticing
Small uppercase labels (dates, sections) give the pages structure without adding clutter.
On phones the headline stays large and expressive; the reading column fills the screen with comfortable margins.
What we built
A headline with a turn
A condensed serif statement that switches to rust-colored italics mid-sentence, setting the tone at once.
A pull quote as the introduction
The blog’s purpose in a large quote with a rule beside it, followed by a short, plain statement of how it works.
Dispatches, not a feed
The latest essays listed as dated dispatches with a one-paragraph summary each.
Warm paper tones
A soft cream ground with ink-dark text, which is easier on the eyes for long reads.
